How DEPOT ranks what you see
Placement is earned, never bought
No seller can pay to appear higher on DEPOT — there is no paid placement, ever. What you see on the home page is ranked by a combination of freshness, listing quality (clear photos, complete details), and what buyers are actually engaging with. A well-photographed, accurately described item from an active seller will always outrank a rushed listing, regardless of who’s selling it.
Every new listing gets a fair first look
New to DEPOT doesn’t mean invisible. Every listing under 72 hours old gets guaranteed exposure in our “Just in” section on the home page, independent of its trend or quality score. Everyone starts with an audience.
Small sellers get a fairness boost
Ranking includes a small-seller boost so a handful of high-volume shops can’t crowd out everyone else. A seller cap also keeps any single boutique from dominating the top of the page — no more than a few of their pieces can appear on page one at once.
A human editorial layer, clearly labeled
Alongside the algorithmic feed, our team hand-picks staff picks and curated collections. These are chosen by people, not the ranking model, and they’re always labeled as editorial so you know the difference between “the feed surfaced this” and “a human chose this.”
What we track to do this
Ranking uses first-party signals only: views, clicks, and saves on listings, plus basic freshness and quality signals from the listing itself. We don’t sell this data or share it with sellers individually. See our Privacy Policy for the full detail on what we collect and why.
